TSRC Sports Car Series Round 4 Debrief
The TSRC Sports Car Series headed to Interlagos for the fourth round. Although the track may seem simple at first glance, the high temperatures and challenging corners made tyre strategy a key factor in the race.
Qualifying was once again close between the main title contenders, Jamie Nuttall and Tom Davidson, in the GTP class. Jamie narrowly beat Tom to pole position by just a hundredth of a second. In the GT3 class, Volkan Bakirdan claimed pole position, with Kieran Sharp and Jack Southfield only a tenth behind.
The race start provided much of the initial action. The GTP class got away cleanly, but in the GT3 class, Volkan Bakirdan went too deep into the first corner, forcing Kieran Sharp off track. Several other cars, including Guillaume Hamling, Grant Miller, and Toomas Kaarna, were also caught up in the incident. While some suffered misfortune, others gained significant ground, including Liam Giles, Yuan Rodriguez-Cancel, and Tiago Pinho. Although the first-lap chaos threatened to shake up the championship standings, Kieran and Toomas made strong recoveries, fighting their way back through the field. After the opening laps, the class leaders were Jamie Nuttall and Jack Southfield, both benefiting from strong starts.
As the race progressed, it became a matter of tyre management. Drivers quickly realised that pushing too hard would disrupt car balance, leading to frustration. During the pit stops, some drivers opted for tyre changes, and those who did reaped the benefits as the race wore on.
In the closing laps, the GT3 field appeared settled, with Jack Southfield maintaining his lead. However, in the GTP class, the action intensified as Tom Davidson put pressure on Jamie Nuttall. Despite his efforts, Tom was hindered by GT3 traffic and couldn’t make a move strong enough to secure the pass, leaving him to finish second while Jamie took the GTP class win.
With only two rounds left in the championship, the grid heads to Monza for the penultimate race. Known for its chaotic racing, Monza could shake up the standings once again. Check back for our next article to catch up on all the latest action.
