Abruzzi GT4 Series Round 5 Debrief
Watkins Glen set the stage for the penultimate round of the Abruzzi GT4 Series. With only one round left in the championship, the drivers were fighting harder than ever. Catch up on the action in our latest article.
Kieran Sharp secured overall and Pro class pole position, with a resurgent Jamie Nuttall, who has shown great late-season form, close behind. In the Am class, the recent addition to the grid, Myles Owens, claimed pole.
The race start was one to remember, marked by chaotic and spectacular crashes. With cars in pieces against barriers and some ending up upside down, it can safely be said that this was one of the messiest races of the championship. Among those caught up in the incidents were Tom Davidson, Ryan Walker, Mike Pollard, Johnny Wooh, and Marc Peiser.
As the race settled, Kieran Sharp maintained the lead, with Jamie Nuttall, Liam Giles, and Felix Smoggi closely following. In the Am class, Matt Cheverton took the lead after Myles Owens had an incident on the first lap. When the time came for pit stops, in typical TSRC fashion, a mistake was made—this time by Jamie Nuttall. For the second time this season, he entered the pits too fast, earning himself a penalty. This was unfortunate, as it looked like he would have had a close exit with Kieran, who had pitted a lap earlier.
Kieran Sharp took the overall and Pro class win, with CRACKD.RACING drivers Liam Giles and Felix Smoggi completing the podium. In the Am class, Matt Cheverton claimed victory, followed by his Azz Tech Racing teammate, with Mav Gardner finishing on the podium for the fourth time this season.
The penultimate round was a thrilling race, setting up for a great finale at Spa. Be sure to tune in to our YouTube channel at 8 pm BST on Friday, 25th October, to catch the final race of the season!
